Camlais Castle is a Norman motte and bailey castle dating to the 12th century. The castle was later abandoned and the site of the motte used for a 14th-century manor house.
Very little remains of the original 12th-century fortifications, which consisted of a round tower atop a rocky mound. It seems that the only outer defences consisted of an earthwork bank.
We know very little of the history of Camlais; it appears to have been destroyed around 1265 and never rebuilt. There are wonderful views from the castle mound towards the peaks of the Brecon Beacons.
