Mid Wales is blessed with an extremely large number of fascinating historic churches, many of them originating before AD 1000 and quite a few closely linked to early Welsh saints.
St Edmunds is a large 13th century church with 19th century side aisles. There are two stained glass windows by Charles Kempe and several memorials to local families.

St Brides is a 19th-century church in a prehistoric circular churchyard. In the porch is a medieval holy water stoup carved with peculiar heads. in the church are plaques brought from the church at Nantgwillt, which was drowned when the Elan Valley dams were built.

St Michael's Church is a Victorian church incorporating a much earlier medieval building. In the churchyard is an ancient yew tree thought to be 5,000 years old and just outside the churchyard are an ancient well-spring and the remains of a Norman castle motte.

St David's church in Glascwm is not simply named for St David, it is said to have been founded by the saint himself, as a centre of Celtic Christianity. The 13th century nave has two original doorways, and the chancel dates from the 15th century. Part of the original wagon ceiling remains.

St Aelhaiarn's is a very well-preserved 14th century church with an earlier tower, on the site of a pre-Norman church perhaps founded by the saint himself. There is an exceptional 14th century nave roof and a painted Tudor ceiling in the chancel.

The small church of Llananno sits in isolation, slumbering away the years without a nearby village, despite the proximity of the busy A483 immediately beside the churchyard. The dedication is to Anno, a saint who is virtually unknown. The church dates to the medieval period, though much of the current structure is a product of a comprehensive Victorian restoration.
