History, tourist information, and nearby accommodation
HERITAGE RATING:
St Margaret's
St Margaret's is a small village in the Golden Valley of Herefordshire, close to the border with Wales. St Margaret's is beautifully situated in an idyllic countryside setting, surrounded by hills and quiet lanes. The most interesting feature of the village is the ancient church.
Within the church is a Tudor rood loft described as 'one of the wonders of Herefordshire'. This loft is wonderfully carved and painted, and is decorated with gilding.
A few miles to the west is Longtown Castle, a medieval fortress dating to the 11th century.
