Christmas in Mappleton
We booked a 5 day stay which would include Christmas Day. On arrival we were met by the owner who was very welcoming and friendly. The cottage was very easy to find and parking was available.
It was a small cottage and exactly as advertised ( except for the games room which I think is a typing error and never expected it to have one).
Cottage had a real fire which we did use a lot though this was not for being cold, just that we liked it. The cottage had central heating so was always very warm.
The cottage was very clean and all amenities required were available.
Location was excellent , a short drive to Asbourne or a walk over the hills. Also very close to Dovedale so a perfect base if you are a walker.
The only downside was the height of the doorway in the bedroom. I must have hit my head about 20 times. I know it is a cottage and this should be expected but I think a piece of foam on it like they do in pubs would have been much appreciated by myself. The shower also broke and only warm water was coming out...the owner did come and haveca look straight away, but being boxing day there was not much he could do. He did give us a bottle of wine as an apology though.
Would definitely come here again..well worth a visit if you want to discover this area. I thought Ashbourne was great, with some quirky shops and bars.
