Cronkhill House was architect John Nash's first attempt at designing an Italianate villa. Nash built Cronkhill in 1805 for Lord Berwick of Attingham Park, and as in most of his work, Cronkhil is ebullient, enthusiastic, and intended to get noticed.
The house is inhabited by a tenant, so opening times are restricted (see National Trust website for details).
The first view of Cronkhill House can be quite startling, as the very Italian look of the house is so much at odds with what one expects to see in the Shropshire countryside!
There are three ground floor rooms on view, plus the staircase hall, and visitors can explore the grounds six days a week outside house opening times.
