Benenden School is a well know school for girls, founded in 1924. Much of the school is housed in the historic buildings of Hemsted House, which dates largely to the early 18th century, though the manor has a history that goes back to at least the 13th century if not earlier. Public footpaths lead from the village through the school grounds, affording views of the house.
