Love this little cottage My boyfriend and I, and our dog stayed here for a week at the end of February for a week. It?s a lovely little cottage, feels very old and authentic, low ceilings, doorways and original beams. It?s a cosy space, lovely to sit and relax, getting away from our busy life. It?s clean and well presented, with internet, a washing machine, a full bath, electric shower. There?s a small gravel garden to the front which would be nice to sit in in the summer. We were there when the snow storm from Russia hit so sitting out wasn?t a choice.
There is a busy road to the front which can be noisy, but to be honest we didn?t find it such a big deal. We managed to park across the road the entire week, but there is a parking space up the side lane if needed.
The living room is relaxing and as we were snowed in at one point it felt lovely and cosy. It?s a bit squashed around the table if there?s four of you but we were fine with just the two of us.
Ashbourne is five minutes away by car which has lots to offer. There?s an abundance of walks near by. The village itself is very cute, but no shops etc, just the local pub. We weren?t at all bothered by this as we knew beforehand and have driven through the village on several occasions on previous holidays. Tissington and Dovedale aren?t faraway.
Are only grumble is the hot water, as it?s not a combi boiler there isn?t consistently enough hot water, especially if four people were staying.
The main bedroom is lovely, the bed extremely comfortable and we?ve slept well the whole week.
We come to the area twice a year and have stayed in various cottages and this has been one of the most comfortable. We have considered coming back here next time instead of trying somewhere new. Cherie S 2018-03-04
Nice cottage but on a busy road This is a lovely little cottage with generous-sized rooms and well appointed. Dog-friendly. Nice walks from the cottage, Ashbourne a couple of miles away, lots of nice peak district villages and market towns within easy driving distance.
We booked through Sykes and the booking process and communication were excellent.
The village of Kniverton is nice, there is an excellent pub just next door to the cottage (good food, dog friendly) but there is not much else in the village (no shop, but a nice old country church which is worth a visit)
The only outdoor area with the cottage is the front garden which is gravelled and separated from the road by a low wall. The road gets busy and is quite noisy although it is supposed to be a 30mph limit (lots of lorries and motorbikes). There isn't a back garden, or even a back door.
No parking at the cottage, but you can park on the lane (next to the pub) which is a stone-throw away.
This is an old cottage, downstairs there are low ceilings and doorways (less than 6 foot head-height in places). There is some damp downstairs. Upstairs is much more light and airy. The kingsize bed in the main bedroom is excellent. The bathroom is downstairs and needs an upgrade. The stair is a narrow, steep, circular stair; we managed it OK but not suitable for anyone with limited mobility.
Overall, it would be a great if it wasn't on the road, we didn't get that relaxed 'in the country' holiday because of the traffic. CaptainTheCat 2017-06-20
