Perfect Stay
This cottage is clean & lovely & with everything we could have needed, and hosts Garth & Mandy couldn?t have been more helpful. It's just perfect for couples or good friends (the wardrobe rail for both rooms is in the 2nd bedroom which is actually quite OK ? but obviously requires some familiarity between the occupants!) The garden is sunny for most of the day with outdoor seating & an interesting veg garden. The dining room is small but big enough for 2 & the patio doors give a nice ?best of both worlds? for eating. The village itself is really friendly ? we chatted to quite a few people during our stay & the nearby Drake's Manor pub does excellent food & ale. Parking wasn?t a problem either - we didn?t actually use the dedicated parking as the church car park can be used (first come, first served) apart from when there's a church service. If you prefer not to drive there's a daytime bus service to the edge of the village from Tavistock though we didn?t get chance to try it out or quite work out the route/timetable. There's plenty to do in the area ? there's a footpath from behind the church to the Garden House, Buckland Abbey is less than a mile away (both are a must do) & the village church is well worth a visit. If you like walking/cycling it's not far from Drake's trail , Walkham valley & Dartmoor National Park - you actually drive through a little bit of the park to get to the village from the main road (watch out for the ponies). A couple of tiny things to be aware of ? there was no phone signal in the house ? though it was fine from the car park across the road & the cottage has wifi so no great problem & there are a couple of steps between the bedrooms & bathroom if you're a night wanderer. The other is that the very last bit of the road to the village is quite narrow (ie with passing places) ? but in South Devon most of the best places seem to be down the narrowest of roads (Cotehele is 20 times worse than the Buckland road!). All in all a wonderful, relaxing stay. Highly recommended.
