I have just had a wonderful surprise weekend away for my Birthday, the house is in a great location just a 2 minute walk from all the amenities of Keswick.
The rooms are spacious and managed to fit 8 of us in comfortably. The property was immaculately cleaned and had all the home comfort you would expect.
Parking was easy at the side of the house and overall a great place for a lovely break.
cant wait to return.
Certainly not one of my best holiday rental cottages.
A party of 7 adults stayed at this property from 2nd to 9th June and we all felt that the cleanliness of the property wasn't very good. It is a property designed for 8 adults. When we arrived, we were given just ONE key by the agency. Expecting there to be more inside the property, we didn't bat an eyelid. After searching for further keys, we phoned the office and there were 2 more bunches at the office. I walked into town to collect them. I have made a complaint to the letting agency about this and several other things. They say they will take the key situation on board.
There is very little storage in en-suites and bedrooms. In the main double bedrooms we had our clothes in our suitcases on the floor. Apparently there is storage behind the mirror/light. Well yes there is in the main bathroom but I don't think so in the en-suite. The owner has said he will consider putting a glass storage shelf in there.
Other issues were a very dirty oven with (what looked like a broken light at the back). The agency have told me that that plastic cover was twisted and that it wasn't actually broken. They say the owner is considering purchasing a new cooker/oven if it can't be cleaned. Also a broken and fat covered grill pan. The letting agency asked if someone in our party had used it as it wouldn't have been left dirty. Well, no, no one had used it (as there was no screw for the handle). She said sorry.
A big problem is the dustbin collection. Holidays are Friday to Friday. Bin collections are Tuesday. Purple recycle bags don't seem to exist. When we arrived, the bin was full and no recycle bags. We had nowhere to put our rubbish. Speaking to the letting agency it appears nothing can be done about that as the council will only provide one bin. Apparently the bin provided is bigger than the average household bin. No where near big enough for 8 adults for a week. It is not possible to be allocated with a second bin.
Two of the toilets don't flush very well. We had to take the lid off to get one to fill properly. The owner has said he will consider buying replacements as he's had other complaints about them.
The mattresses in the "childrens bedroom" are very soft and thin. However, the owner says they were expensive and he's not looking to replace them unless anyone else complains. We had 2 adults in that room
In my complaint I also mentioned about one of the kitchen chairs being wobbly. The agency have been into the property and asked the current people and they say the chairs are fine. Obviously we were heavier then they are!!
in the lounge there are only enough comfy chairs for 7 people - although the cottage is for 8.
There were just 5 teaspoons in the cutlery drawer - not enough for 8 people. Its also lacking in crockery. Had to have the dishwasher on frequently - the dishwasher with the broken wheel............which is going to be fixed.
There were dog hairs everywhere when we arrived - on the rug in the lounge and on the chairs upstairs. We did complain to the office on the Monday and the cleaner did come in to mop and hoover. The dog hairs were still there after she'd mopped as they were just being blown around. The agency said that if we'd contacted the again then they'd have come back for another attempt. In all fairness we were on holiday and we didn't want to spend all our holiday complaining. We were there to have a good time. We have been offered £50 compensation which I have accepted.
We will never use this agency again. I could write more but I have held a few things back. I just hope that things will be put right so that the future guests can have a decent holiday. All I would say is that if you find anything wrong, complain about it there and then as you'll have a better case.
On a positive note, there is space for 2 cars outside the property!!
Home away from Home!
Wordsworth house is superb! I can't understate this enough.
The house is in a brilliant location - walking distance to town, a swimming pool, local Booths, a number of outdoor activities and lovely restaurants.
The house in itself is prefect from a family trip - all the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfy!!! There are enough to facilities in the house to allow for a party of 8+ to get ready in the morning with no major fuss.
We also visited Wordsworth House with a large dog who really enjoyed himself watching the streets through the windows and the glass doors in the extension.
The only downside of our trip was that the beds aren't particularly comfortable - but then again that's a personal preference and it wasn't a huge issue.
We would definitely rebook the house again if holidaying in the Lakes with a large group!!
Had lovely family holiday here-comfortable, warm house.
Easy ,flat, walk into Keswick centre for older generation.
Teenagers will love all the flat screens and modern kitchen.
Kitchen table only has 6 chairs though cottage sleeps eight.
Settees in lounge need re arranging for sociability.
Lack of enclosed space outside is not ideal for dogs as patio is near road.
Spacious cottage; quiet, yet close to all that Keswick has to of
We have visited Keswick many times; Wordsworth House was a last minute break and a bargain because our half term dates were different to England's. The house was beautifully spacious and the views from the front bedrooms breathtaking. The kitchen was superb and there was plenty of room for the four of us. It was in a quiet back street but very close to Fitz Park and the road into Keswick. We love being able to walk to the shops and Derwent Water. The house was warm and the facilities excellent. It was very useful having the washer and tumble drier after a day in the hills.
We enjoyed days walking, a trip to Clip n Climb in Maryport which is great if it's a rainy day and got the bus to Carlisle.
The decor was neutral and the furnishings very tasteful. The beds were comfortable and there were TVs everywhere!! The only negative comment we could make is that the sofas in the lounge looked lovely but weren't very comfortable.
We had really good service from the rental company and would love to return.
