Urquhart Castle photo, Urquhart Castle

Urquhart Castle stands on the north west shore of Loch Ness, looking out over the dark waters where the legendary Loch Ness Monster is said to lurk. This atmospheric castle dates to at least the 13th century, and was once one of the largest castles in Scotland. At the heart of the castle is an impressive 16th century tower house, and there is a very good museum on site with displays of artefacts found during excavations.
