An elegant country house, the home of the Grants of Rothiemurchus for centuries. The Doune stands beside an ancient motte, or hill fort (Doune comes from 'dun' for a fortified place). The house dates to the 16th century, and was probably built by the Shaw family.

Dunrobin Castle is the sumptuous Highlands home of the Earls of Sutherland, this turreted castle in the French style has a keep dating from around 1300, with additions from the 17th-19th centuries. The interiors are filled with fine furniture and china, paintings and silver. Below the castle are beautiful formal gardens modelled after those at Versailles.

Skaill House is a historic 17th-century mansion situated a short walk from the Skara Brae prehistoric site. The house was built for Bishop George Graham around 1620 but has been the family home of the Lairds of Skaill since.
