Mousebank Cottage Lanark
This lovely bungalow is spoilt by the rude obnoxious owner.
He refused our deposit back, as he said the property was not left to his exacting standards.
I wonder if he worries about his customers comfort with the cheapest most uncomfortable single beds.
The cheap and most uncomfortable sofas.
Everything done on the cheap.
Supposed to be dog friendly, but no gates on the garden.
And him keeping an eye on you the whole time you are there.
We have a holiday cottage which is equipped to the highest of standards and we leave our guests in peace to enjoy their break.
A nice holiday home spoilt by obnoxious owners. Be wary as others have previously stated!
Not nice people
Mousebank is a nice place but anyone visiting there please beware. There is a housekeeping bond that you need to pay, this it states you get back within 7 days of departure. We always respect other people's property but this ruined it for us. 7 days went by and nothing so I contacted sykes who I booked with. That evening I received an email from the owner saying that £30 is being deducted from the bond, this is for finger marks on the patio doors and wardrobe doors, bits of tissue that got overlooked and sweet wrappers, the oven wasn't clean and my son used an extra mattress protector. I explained we cleaned everything and even took photos, we got in reply that our cleaning isn't up to their standards hence the deduction. Basically if you wish to stay at this property and get your bond back then you must forensically clean everything upon leaving. It's not child friendly. We were accused of leaving dirty glasses in cupboard when we found dirty glasses and a pan on arrival. The bath room door doesn't lock, the internet is rubbish, there was a power cut while we were there and nobody came to see if we needed anything. The owner was rude so beware. These people are looking for ways not to pay back your bond. They want you to do those cleaning for them or you lose your money. You have been warned
Ruined by a unrealistic owner
This was a lovely cottage. Clean, spacious and well situated to explore. We had a great time here. Our holiday was ruined when on return the owner sent us an email to say that we would not get our full deposit back. We were told that we had not cleaned it well enough on departure. They complained about fingerprints on the tv (we had toddlers with us) and some sand on the floor which they swept into a little pile and took a photo of. They accused us of marking the dining chairs, marks on cushions and a wall - none of which happened and of course they weren?t able to provide photographic proof of any of this. When we objected the owner sent us an email saying ?perhaps you can?t read Scottish? (we are English) and ?perhaps you think you are above cleaning?. Sykes told him he should refund our money. He refused . This mean character ruined a holiday which was taken for a child who is in foster care. This so called ?cleaning bond? is clearly an extra little money spinner for the owner. So if you want a holiday where it is you who is expected to clean and prepare the property ready for the next occupants- this is for you.
Also not suitable for small children as owner won?t allow you to move anything (even if it's to protect the object or your child). Steep steps at rear of property are unsafe for children and owner states he expects you to hose down your child using outdoor hose if you dare go to a beach.
A lovely holiday home, if only it were owned by someone else.
