Herefordshire is blessed with an extraordinary collection of historic churches, with some especially interesting examples tucked in the rugged countryside near the Welsh border. Perhaps the most famous church in the county is not the glorious edifice of Hereford Cathedral, but the quiet little Norman church at Kilpeck, with its marvellous collection of carved faces decorating both the interior and exterior.
The first church at Bromyard was established sometime around AD 840 as a Saxon minster. The only Saxon remnants are a carved figure of St Peter holding the keys to heaven and a consecration cross over the south doorway. The Saxon church was rebuilt in the 12th century on a cruciform plan.

It seems likely that there was a church at Cradley at the time of the Domesday Book; we can't be certain, for the Domesday record speaks of a priest, but does not specifically mention a church. Be that as it may, it seems clear that there was a place of worship here in the Saxon period, for incorporated into the north wall of the tower is a Saxon stone which may have served as a 'becun', or marker to designate a gathering place for worship by Saxon missionary priests.

Eardisley parish church is famed for its extraordinary carved Norman font, which must be considered one of the finest fonts in England if not one of the finest bits of Norman Romanesque architecture of any kind. The font is built like a truncated hour-glass, or a goblet, with a short circular base supporting a wide circular bowl.
