Old Inverlochy Castle photo, Inverlochy Castle

One of the lesser known Scottish castles, yet one that played an important part in Scottish history. The castle stands on the River Lochy just west of Fort William, the western gateway to the Highlands. The castle dates to the 13th century and was the seat of the Comyn family. In 1645 Inverlochy was the site of a fierce battle between the Earl of Montrose and a Covenanters army led by the Marquess of Argyll, which saw Montrose's royalists decisively defeat Argyll's men.
