Pet friendly retreat
The perfect retreat if you want quiet nights and dark skies to see the stars. Very clean, large lounge and three bedrooms. Fantastic wood burner and all the logs you need. I think we only saw one vehicle passing in the whole week, excluding the owners. Shirley was very nice and always helpful and available with any queries about recycling or anything else. The owner was also very chatty if you want to practise your welsh or watch him with the sheep. The views from the property were stunning we were very lucky with the weather. As mentioned earlier if you are interested in sky watching this might be an ideal place to stay.
Local pubs are a few miles away including the New Inn At Llangynog and there are a few options in Llanfyllin including the Cain Valley Hotel for food or drink there is also a chip shop which is also recommended.

Absolutely loved it.. owners were lovely and welcoming
My daughter booked this weekend as a Christmas present for us, well, it was absolutely lovely,
We were 5 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs, the house was just what we needed. Cosy, warm and welcoming.
There was a log burner in the lounge, and underfloor heating throughout. It was just what we needed in January.
The converted barn is situated on a working farm with views to die for.
The kitchen was well equipped with all basic items included, and plenty of towels, even towels for the dogs.
The owners were absolutely wonderful, thoughtful and kind. The day we left, was the day we were hit by Storm Ciara, the kind Farmer came to tell us that we need not rush to leave and we could stay there for an extra night if we needed, but unfortunately, with work on Monday, we had no choice but chance it, but it made us feel a whole lot better knowing that we had somewhere to stay if need be. He even phoned my daughter to check if we had arrived home safely. A true Welsh Farmer style, which meant a lot. Diolch o galon.
We will be back.. for sure..

A great place to stay
I echo the previous reviews - the cottage is lovely, well-equipped and clean. The views are stunning and the cottage is ideal for those who enjoy peaceful holidays in the heart of the countryside. There are no streetlamps and one evening we were treated to a quite magical display of stars. We chose the area initially because we had family matters to attend to (I was brought up about ten miles away) and we thought Halfen looked nice from the description and from the photo. We also chose it because it has an enclosed garden for our two Jack Russell dogs. In fact, the garden proved to be a hit as it is big enough to play ball with them and it is very secure. The surrounding fields contain sheep so it was very important to us that the dogs could be allowed off the lead within a secure environment. Although the cottage is part of a farm, the yard outside is very clean and well-maintained. On the day we arrived, we were given a very warm welcome and enjoyed chatting to the owners in passing. My elderly mother stayed with us for a few nights and, although she doesn't walk very well, she managed to climb the stairs with no trouble - the stairs are wide and the handrail is solid wood. The kitchen is very well-equipped and I loved having a decent-sized freezer (we were there for two weeks). The only thing I could have done with was a kitchen scissors to open bags of food etc but I was able to buy one cheaply when we went shopping. On that subject, I would recommend Welshpool as it is the nearest sizeable town to Halfen. It has three supermarkets plus the usual shops and services. Unfortunately, we drove the long way to Welshpool and only found out towards the end of our holiday that there is a much shorter route - we wished we'd have asked the owners about this from the start (so much for my local knowledge!). A word of warning - for the last couple of miles to the cottage (from either direction) the road is very narrow so be prepared to give way to oncoming vehicles. All in all, a lovely break and we would definitely go back.

We had a superb time. The hosts were very friendly. The cottage was exactly as described and superb in every way. The enclosed garden was great for our two dogs, very safe and secure with a view to die for! The moment we phoned your office to book everything went like clockwork.

The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was really good and homely full of various types of equipment including a travel cot. Beautiful scenery and surroundings and very quiet in the middle of nowhere but not too far to go to different attractions just what we wanted. We were lucky with the weather so were able to sit in the garden if we didn't want to go out. We would go again if we wanted a break from it all!
