RECENT CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Neither exceptional nor dire!
Living over three floors won't suit everyone, and if you need to visit the toilet during the night, you'll have to go down a flight of stairs. The photographs make the accommodation look considerably larger than it is, four people will probably feel rather claustrophobic and parking is very tight if you are parking anything larger than a Suzuki Ignis. The balcony is advertised as a 'feature' but why anyone would want to sit on it, overlooking nothing but dirty rooves, is beyond me. Despite what other reviews have said, the Phone signal (02) is acceptable and the bed in the master bedroom now has two mattress protectors, so no way of knowing whether or not the mattress is still stained, without more meticulous investigation! The bed is quite firm. No proper ironing board is provided, a bit silly when a washer/dryer IS provided. By the way, you have to run a cable from the kitchen to the washing machine under the stairs, in order to get power to it. The bus stops outside and the location is relatively quiet. There is a Post Office selling newspapers and provisions about five minutes away (gentle uphill walk on the way there). Bring slippers, there are cold flag stones on the ground floor. The accommodation was clean, but the bath is very small and only hand towels are provided. The Wi-Fi is good and the TV receives Freeview channels. For larger supermarkets you will need to go to Ulverston (Booths) or Kendal (Asda, Morrisons, but the latter means having to negotiate the awful one way system). You can get more basic provisions in Grange over Sands and a train trip to Arnside or Ulverston can be pleasant. No recycling facilities provided, which is a little behind the times. The title of this review says it all. Thank you for reading.

Comfortable
Having read the previous review it is disappointing to note that the mattress still has a stain despite me ringing Sykes the week before asking for it to be rectified before our arrival. There is not even a mattress protector which is a bit worrying in the times of pandemic we are in. We spent several minutes trying to switch the fitted freezer on before noticing a small freezer in the opposite corner of the kitchen. A note on the broken one would have been useful. In the information pack it tells you that bin day is Wednesday and asks you to put the bin out on Tuesday night, however having put the bin out and it not being emptied I discovered too late that bin day is Monday! I apologise to the next guests for this and request that the owner update the pack. Having been advised that the house had been deep cleaned between guest visits, we were surprised to find a Chocolate bar wrapper under the chair in the sitting room. There is a parking spot in front of the premises but it is a bit of a squeeze and suitable for a smaller car - we found it difficult parking an estate car. Otherwise this is a nicely appointed and comfortable place to stay.

Well equipped, quiet location.
Quiet location, good base for exploring the lower Lake District and Morcambe Bay. Due to covid we decided to take our own bedding and requested that the beds were not made up. However on our arrival all the beds were made. We had to put the bedding to one side during our stay but left the bottom sheets on, when I came to strip the double bed on our departure, I found that the mattress was very badly stained and there were no mattress protectors on any of the beds. The freezer was not working on our arrival and as there is no phone signal in the property or surrounding area we had to wait until the following day to report this to Sykes (you can only phone them, there is no email address). The problem was sorted two days after arrival, this did not help the fact that we had brought frozen ready meals for the week as we didn?t want to shop. This problem should have been spotted by the cleaners. The wardrobe door handle came of in my hand and we had to use a spoon to get the door open. The second bedroom was smaller than it looked in the photo and lacked a mirror. There was not much room to open the drawers. The bathroom is a good size but the grouting round the shower needs attention. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped just a shame that everything was not up to standard.
