Fantastic cottage and grounds Just returned from a week's break at The Stables over half term and can?t recommend it highly enough. The accommodation has been really well converted, with comfortable rooms that are all tastefully decorated. The cottage sits in the expansive and beautifully maintained grounds of Upnor Castle House, overlooking the castle and the River Medway. It's a truly stunning location. My sons (7 and 10) had great fun exploring and playing football and croquet. They also made some use of the swimming pool. Mark, the owner, was always on hand to advise about the local area and my kids loved playing with his dogs, Bramble and Truffle. We had some good day trips to the Clip n Climb centre in Tonbridge, Chislehurst Caves and Capstone Country Park in Gillingham. All in all, The Stables is a great place to stay and we?d love to return in the future. Dtboxer 2018-06-04
Lovely place to stay for a great price! Located on the grounds of Upnor Castle, this property has great views of the Castle and all the grounds. The Stables is private as it is located behind a high wall that surrounds the whole property. The owners, Nicky and Mark live on the grounds in the house nearby. They are both very kind and helpful. The dogs , Fudge and Bramble are very friendly and calm dogs. The Stables is a great accommodation for a holiday. It has a reasonable sized kitchen and dining, a bathroom upstairs with a shower and a bath and downstairs there is a toilet. The living room is quite big and comfortable. Upstairs, the bedrooms are a reasonable size and are really comfortable. The place is very clean. Also, Upnor is not very far away from the shops in Strood, only a quick 5-10 minute drive depending on which shops you go to. francescagtb25 2018-01-24
Great Location for visiting area inc. London Just got back from a week at the Stables (12th to 19th August). Two adults and our 7yr old Grandson.
This is a lovely cottage with everything that you need for a relaxing week or as a base for exploring Kent and London.
Spotlessly clean with good quality beds and bedding. (If you like a firm pillow, bring this with you as the pillows are feather filled and luxuriously soft).
Mark was on hand for information and advice, but was also respectful of privacy etc. He had the balance perfect.
If you like dogs, Bramble and Fudge are a delight, visiting regularly to say hello.
Our Grandson loved the swimming pool and playing with Mark's Great Niece and Nephew. In fact we loved the whole grounds, William loved collecting fruit straight from the trees and making a fruit crumble!!
I would recommend The Tudor Rose - just outside the gates - wonderful food and service.
After a busy day in London, it was lovey coming back to such a peaceful setting. norwichguy 2017-08-20
The Stables at Upnor Castle House Tucked away in a huge walled garden, behind private gates, lies the impressive Upnor Castle House and its sidekick, The Stables; a quaint little cottage, with lots of well thought out little touches to make it feel like home.
The expansive grounds include a tennis court, croquet lawn and swimming pool. The pool was tucked behind 'the big house' but was fully accessible to us throughout our stay. Upnor Castle is visible at the bottom of the garden as is the river Medway. The property is very central and is a perfect base for Diggerland, Legoland and London. Would definitely return when next in the area, the kids hope that's very soon, they loved it here! hwhitwell 2017-06-09
