The parish church probably owes its large size and fine appearance to a 14th-century rector. John Schorne (or Shorne) was rector at North Marston from 1290-1314. Schorne was said to have discovered the nearby holy well that bears his name when he struck his staff into the ground and a spring of water gushed forth.

St Mary's Church in Old Amersham dates to 1140 and boasts a wealth of memorials from the 15th to the 18th century, including many to the Drake family. The font is 13th century and there are 14th-century floor tiles on display. Look for the touching memorial brass to John Drake, who died in 1623 at the age of three.

The parish church of Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Cross is located at the east end of Quainton village. It is a sizeable building, with a very nice west tower. The church is built of rubble, while the tower is faced with ashlar. The current building is in Decorated style, and dates almost entirely to 1340, with the exception of the tower, which was added in the 15th century.

The building is of a mix of limestone rubble and ironstone, beneath a tile roof. The nave, chancel, and central tower all date to the 12th century.
