The Discover Bucks Museum (formerly the Buckinghamshire County Museum and Art Gallery) is located in the centre of Aylesbury, in mostly 15th-century buildings. The museum exhibits focus on the history and unique cultural heritage of the Buckinghamshire area through 8 themed exhibit areas, including Fossils, Celts and Romans, Jewellery, Clay and Brickmaking, Farming, Wood and Woodland, Lacemaking, and Villages of Buckinghamshire.
The museum holds regular changing exhibits inviting visitors to explore such diverse activities as garden design through time, railways in Buckinghamshire, and children's games. The museum also holds over 23,000 old and historic photographs of Buckinghamshire locations. The Art Gallery shows works by local artists and a changing programme of special exhibits, most with a Buckinghamshire theme.
The County Museum shares space with the Roald Dahl Children's Gallery, but separate admission prices apply.
The museum is a fascinating place to visit for all ages with an exciting programme of changing exhibitions and events throughout the year.
The new Discover Bucks Galleries tell the story of Buckinhamshire people and landscapes from 200 million years ago to the present day. See bones of a ferocious sea monster dug up in Aylesbury, a 3,000-year-old Bronze Age sword, and the Lenborough hoard of Anglo-Saxon coins.
For hands-on discovery and amazing science inspired by Roald Dahl’s stories visit the fabulous Roald Dahl Children’s Gallery. Enjoy the friendly cafe, relax in the walled garden or browse in the gift shop.
