The Regency Town House, Hove (c) Paul Gillett
The Regency Town House, Hove

The Regency Town House is a lovely early 19th-century building, located on Brunswick Square in Hove. This Grade I listed house was rescued from the modern rebuilding which affected many of its historic neighbours.

The Twn House stands as a wonderful example of elegant Regency architecture, and a reminder of a way of life that has disappeared.

The house was built by architect Charles Augustin Busby as part of a grand development scheme of similar houses. The interior features wonderful plasterwork, moulding, ironwork, and fireplaces that evoke a forgotten age.

The house was rescued from development in the 1980s, with the aim of creating a living museum showing Regency life above and below stairs.

The museum also owns the basement of number 10, Brunswick Square, an almost unaltered example of Regency servant quarters. Check opening times as pre-booking may be needed.
