Althorp is famous as the home of the Earl and Countess Spencer, and the ancestral home of Diana, Princess of Wales. There has been a house at Althorp since the beginning of the 16th century when Sir John Spencer bought land here. The house that Sir John built provides the essential shape of the current building; an enclosed courtyard with a projecting wing along the south side. Althorp is set in magnificent grounds, covering 450 acres of parkland.

Lamport Hall is a mid-17th-century Italianate villa designed by John Webb for the Isham family, on the site of an earlier Tudor manor house. The house was one of the first of the Italianate style to be built in 17th-century England. The house was later enlarged by Francis Smith of Warwick, and again in the 1860s, but it still retains its very Italian flavour.
