Charlbury Museum

The Charlbury Museum is a delightful small museum, full of local interest, maintained by The Charlbury Society and set in a lovely historic property directly beside Corner House on Market Street, in the centre of town.

On display are 19th-century farm tools, historic photographs, an Oxfordshire wagon, a pennyfarthing bicycle and other artefacts depicting the heritage of the ancient glove-making market town of Charlbury.

The museum is set in a pretty period cottage of Cotswold stone. In five rooms of exhibits, you can learn about the heritage of the Charlbury area.

See old inn signs, tools used by a local watchmaker, farming equipment, even a blacksmith's forge. There is a large archive of old photos and genealogical records which will prove invaluable if you are interested in tracing your family tree.

The museum has a regular programme of special exhibits. Recent exhibits include a look back at Charlbury in World War One, and the development of the local school, now 200 years old.
