This small museum in Newtonmore covers the history of Clan Macpherson and the Badenoch area. A special highlight is the story of Macpherson of Cluny, one of the last of the Jacobites. Cluny went into hiding after the Battle of Culloden and was on the run for 9 years.

Culloden was the last tragic roll of the dice in Bonnie Prince Charlie's attempt to wrest the throne of Britain from the Hanoverian dynasty. On these fields near Inverness the Jacobite army met the English under the Duke of Cumberland, on 16 April 1746. The Jacobites were routed, and the Prince was forced to flee.

Garenin (or Gearrannan as it is spelled in Gaelic) is a coastal crofting village on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, north of Carloway. The area has been settled since ancient times, but the village at Gearrannan dates to the 17th century. Gearrannan inhabitants lived in a type of thatched cottage known as a 'blackhouse', built of stone and turf, with walls of double thickness.
