W8
First begun as Newland Street in 1817, it runs south from Kensington High Street; the present name recalls the parish connection with the Abbey of Abingdon. In 1894 the Australian-born Countess von Arnim, author of Elizabeth and her German Garden, is said to have stayed at Abingdon Mansions.
