HERITAGE RATING:
The Soar (Llanfaethlu) Stone
Also known as the Llanfaethlu Standing Stone, this solitary stone is about three metres high (almost 10 feet) and tapers from 1.7 metres at the bottom to a point at the top. It is about 0.4 metres thick (roughly one foot). It is located beside the A5025 just south of Llanfaethlu village.
The RCAHMW (Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Wales) suggest that the stone is possibly of Bronze Age date, although it may be more recent.
The stone is in a fenced field protected by rather unpleasant barbed wire, but it is so close to the road that it is easy to get within a couple of feet for easy viewing. That's what we did to take the photo accompanying this description.
