Perfect Peace
What a wonderful week spent in perfect peace. This is a gem of a retreat and the owners have included touches of luxury to make your stay as comfortable as possible. We couldnt have asked for a better location...seals, birds, sunsets and nature walks. Will definitely return. Thank you

Fabulous retreat on a nature reserve
We enjoyed a much-needed break away from it all in this converted outbuilding next to the lighthouse on South Walney Island nature reserve. Privately owned, on land managed by Cumbria Wildlife Trust. A truly remote place, less than 3 miles down an unmade road from the gate of the reserve. There are 2 other cottages, a larger one in the same ownership and also let, and a cottage with a private resident. They are set out such that they can't be seen whilst inside. The accommodation is compact but plenty spacious enough for 2 with an open plan living area/kitchen and a separate bedroom with en-suite power shower, vanity unit and toilet. Very clean and modern, well equipped with everything you need and additional luxuries such as a Nespresso coffee maker and frother. The power shower is excellent and there is a large screen TV and sophisticated SONOS sound system. There is underfloor heating although we didn't need this. There is a fridge with a smallish freezer compartment which could accommodate around 4 ready meals for 2 and some ice cubes. Also dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. There was enough crockery provided to enable us to fill the dishwasher before running it. The welcome box with drinks and nibbles was a nice touch, thank you. There is a lovely walled garden at the back with a summerhouse and water feature and also a German beach basket chair. So nice to escape to when the weather isn't so good. And great to see linnets so close up as they visited the water feature. Inside the property, sitting at the generous glass table looking out towards the sand dunes there are bi fold doors which, when opened, give an unobstructed view of the dunes. The doors do open but they are resistant and need quite a hefty shove to move them. The amenities are stated as the property having ocean views/water views. You are a few yards from the sea here but have to go a short way up onto the sand dunes to see a spectacular view from this amazing place. Don't expect a sea view from the cottage itself. However, you might be treated to a procession of cows going by your door in the morning! We were lucky enough to see seals in the water at hide tide, not too far up and along the dunes. Thanks to Martin, the owner, who was very attentive when there was a problem with the wi-fi. We thoroughly enjoyed a restful break here and wished it had been longer.

The Hide
We spent spring bank holiday 2018 here with our 2 young grand kids. It is such a lovely spot, found it to be a comfortable and very well equipped modern cottage. The owners are friendly and very helpful.

Note: Area is a Wildlife reserve, Beach is not accessible due to nesting and migrating birds
Note: This property has a 4pm check in time
The reserve is a Nature Reserve run by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust and it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and guests must respect that
No dogs are allowed at the property or anywhere on the reserve, even on a lead
When you are walking around on the reserve, you must keep to the paths, and don't go down onto the beach
Never go onto the long Spit of land at the very end of the island (past the fence)
In the Autumn and Winter, huge numbers of wader birds use the beaches to rest, and it's vital they are undisturbed to save energy and help them survive the winter
In the Spring and Summer, coastal birds nest here and must not be disturbed or harmed
Some of the nests are hard to see and easy to stand on so please keep to the paths
The reserve is monitored by a Warden and it is embarrassing for them, for guests and for us for visitors to be told off for roaming around where they should not be
This is a bird watcher??'s paradise
No fireworks should be let off at the property and no drones should be used
We also have neighbours and we ask that guests respect their privacy
This is a beautiful, family friendly holiday home, and whilst it has modern audio and video facilities for everyone to enjoy, it is not a place for a noisy party group weekend away
