The BA London Eye, as it is popularly known, was constructed to celebrate the turning of the millennium in 2000. At that time, when it was generally known as The Millennium Wheel, it was intended to stand for only a few years. It proved so popular, however, that it has been turned into a permanent tourist attraction, and is now actually the most visited paid visitor attraction in London.
