The legend of the Princes in the Tower is part of the rich lore of the Tower of London. In short, the young sons of Edward IV were placed in the Tower of London by their uncle, Richard III. The princes disappeared, and stories spread that Richard had murdered them. Nothing was proved (and still isn't) but in the 17th century workmen clearing this space at the bottom of a stairwell in the White Tower found two skeletons about the right size to be those of the missing princes. Were they they princes? If so, who killed them? We don't know, and the mystery lingers.
