This simple, poignant carving is perhaps more moving for its simplicity. The carving is a coat of arms and the single name, 'Jane', and was left by Lady Jane Grey, the unfortunate Nine Days Queen, who was caught up in the machinations of her ambitious step-father and was executed on Tower Green, a few steps from the door of the Beauchamp Tower.
