Tower Green, the site of some of the most famous - or infamous - executions in English history. There were only seven people ever executed on Tower Green, but their story lingers. In this small green space between Beauchamp Tower and the chapel of St Peter ad Vincula wee executed two queens of Henry VIII; Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, and five members of the nobility; Baron Hastings, Margaret of Salisbury, Jane Boleyn, Lady Jane Grey, and Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex. Only noble prisoners were afforded the privilege of being executed here; the riff-raff were executed in public on Tower Hill, or at Tyburn.
