This apartment sleeps four people in two bedrooms, consisting of one double with en-suite shower and one twin. The apartment also has a shower room, a kitchen and a sitting room with open fire.

Roadside parking and a shared, rear yard is also available. 23A Gordon Street is a convenient base for exploring the whole of Northumberland.

Would not stay here again,we had 2 sleepless nights as you could hear everything downstairs,even them speaking and they were late bedders.we ended up going home a night early because of this.also you couldn't shut a couple of the windows and some had no handles on them to open them.the walls could do with a fresh coat of paint.also the fridge hadn't been cleaned and a couple of nearly empty were in the fridge.also the front door is awkward to open as you need to go down a stair when opening it.

Small and cosy flat
I booked this cottage at the last minute without checking tripadvisor. I was quite worried when I did, I?ve never stayed anywhere with a 1 star rating! I?ve never booked with Sykes before either, though we regularly use other cottage companies. So, I was quite relieved by what we found. The flat was thoroughly clean (and we had our toddler with us, so I?ve been fishing toys from under the sofa! Even there was clean). The living room is small, but cosy and comfortable. The bedrooms are both a decent size. The kitchen is well equipped and everything works. Everything is nicely decorated. The TV in the pictures has been upgraded to a large smart TV and the WiFi was good. Sykes says it ?may not be suitable for customers with mobility issues?. It definitely isn?t. The access is up a half flight of concrete stairs in the back yard. The door at the top of the stairs opens outward, so once you've unlocked it you have to back down a few steps to open it. We found this a bit inconvenient with small children, it would be very difficult for anyone with mobility issues. There isn?t much soundproofing between this and the lower flat, we heard a lot of sound from below so I expect they heard even more from us as the living room floor is laminate without soundproofing. There's nowhere to hang coats and the handles have fallen off several of the windows making it difficult to open/close them. There's a tiny dining table to seat two. The flat is in a great location for the beach and the splash park/playground and there's a small co-op at the end of the road. The local area is quiet and we didn?t have any problems with parking. There's also a sea view from one seat in the living room!

No instructions on arrival had to phone Jo to get wifi and heating instructions. Tried to find fire escape since upstairs and only exit was downstairs via galley kitchen. All windows only opened an inch! Called Jo who was very rude- spent 3 sleepless nights until we got a fire officer to come over and inspect. He showed us that window in twin room could be unhooked to be a fire escape however he informed us that the flat didn't meet fire regs. No fire doors, no extinguisher, no instructions on display, no fire guard for open fire!! We complained. Owner then tried to sue us £200 to repaint around fireplace cos of soot damage!!! We only used the fire in an appropriate way! I suspect the lack of fire guard and I cleaned chimneys allowed smoke to escape into the room- either way it was not our fault! Sykes cottages did not post our review- nor any on this site! Which shows they are not giving an unbiased rating! They also weren't interested that flat didn't comply with fire regs!!! AVOID!!!

Unhappy Customer
When my daughter and I arrived we were faced with a flat that had not been cleaned following the last guests. We were horrified! We had to phone Sykes Cottages who contacted the owners who then contacted their cleaner so she could come and clean up and change sheets etc. The cleaner was very apologetic despite it not being her fault and kindly gave us money to go and get coffee while she cleaned. Once cleaned the property looked better but the fridge and microwave were still dirty and there were grubby magazines under living room table. The window in the shower room would not shut and the window in the ensuite bedroom would not open.There was no welcome pack so we had no WiFi code and no instructions on how to turn on the heating. The cleaner was kind enough to find the WiFi code for us. I have put a formal complaint in to Sykes Cottages over a week ago now and I am still awaiting a response. I have fed back to booking.com whom I initially booked with. Very disappointed in this property.

We booked through Sykes Cottages/Home away Mon-Fri ,first impression was the ash tray smell as you walk in the door, people must stand there to smoke and it all goes up in to the flat. At first it all looked bright and cheery, I sat with a coffee and noticed white dog hairs on the coffee table and on the shelf underneath, on looking around the dark wood floor I couldn't see any more but moved the coffee table and it had obviously not been cleaned under there, the dishes at the side of the cooker were also covered in dust and dog hairs. light fitting cover was missing and the wire was full of dust/cobwebs, I tried in vain to clean the dark wood floor which had never seen a mop! on further investigation the bed had been slept in, the pillows had old slaver stains on them and the mattress protector had 3 big (sex) stains on it too!!! the owner insisted that the flat had been cleaned on the friday for our monday arrival.... sykes cottages must have rented it out without them knowing over the weekend..... sykes cottages confirmed this was NOT the case ( which i knew because there was complimentary biscuits & milk for us, the windows were open and you have to ring the owner for the key box code) we ended up in a B&B for 2 nights then gave up and went back home. our holiday was comletely ruined, 3 hrs away from home, our friends due to join us for a couple of days, a fridge full of food spoilt, a tank full of fuel wasted, a weeks holiday that we can not re take ( im self employed so lost earnings too) avoid at all costs!
