The perfect country retreat!
We had a wonderful weekend away with friends at 122 Upton. The property is full of character and comfort, so cosy with the open fire. The picture perfect cottage is walking distance from the Fox and Hounds Pub and adorable Wrens shop with great local produce and friendly staff! If travelling by car we recommend the visits to the Hauser and Wirth, Beckford Arms and Stourhead house and gardens for trips with family and friends!

Mixed Blessings
122 Upton is a picture postcard thatched cottage in East Knoyle, Wiltshire. The location is rural and very pretty. We were blessed with beautiful weather and spent the evenings enjoying a glass of wine in the garden listening to bird song and other wildlife. A young deer came into the garden a couple of times and helped herself to the tiger lily buds - whoops! At 5.30 ish each day we watched the farmer herd his cows down the lane to the milking sheds and one cow we affectionately named ?Daisy? would randomly take herself for a walk down the lane when she felt like it, much to our amusement! Fortunately the lane is very quiet with approximately 2 cars an hour... The cottage is very pretty but requires some updating and sorting out. There is a strong smell of dog when you walk into the property and the furnishings are tired and in need of a clean, particularly the sofa in the lounge which is stained. The plumbing is poor with no pressure in the upstairs bathroom, it took an age to run a bath and the shower head had no pressure at all. However, plenty of hot water and pressure ok in the kitchen. The windows are quaint and authentic but tsome didn?t open and bathroom window hanging off on one hinge. There is complimentary teabags, which is a lovely gesture, however, all out of date, one pack sporting sell by date 2014. The owners sent a helpful email detailing hot water, entry to property details but nothing about recycling or refuge collections. When we looked for some written information on top of fridge there was only a council tax demand and some tools belonging to the owner. Also in the cupboard was a bag of opened dog food and half a carton of ice cream left in the fridge - it?s as though the owner moves in and out between rentals which is fine if they take personal papers and belongings with them! The bins were full from previous guests/owner and the refuge collection turned out to be Friday and neighbouring bins were emptied but 122 Upton bins were left untouched? This meant we had to leave our rubbish in the kitchen bin when we left which is not something we?d normally do. The bedrooms were comfortable, bedding and towels clean and fresh but mattress protector and duvet in one room was horribly stained which we discovered when stripping the beds on leaving. So mixed blessings, beautiful location, gorgeous cottage but does need some sorting out to live up to the four stars that Sykes Cottages grade it at.?
