Perfect Yorkshire break
We have just returned from the cottage after a brilliant week away.
We loved the look of the cottage and the cute courtyard (which is a sun trap in the afternoon/evening) the garden out the back was lovely to have our morning coffee, especially in the sun.
We were greeted with yummy brownies, wine, a beer and milk which was a lovely touch.
It's in the perfect location for the three peaks, we had time to do Ingleborough and Whernside this week. Great walks with incredible views.
The cottage itself was well presented, very clean and comfortable. We had some very hot days but also a couple of cool nights so we got to make use of the wood burner which made it warm and cosy.
The main bedroom is big and has great views, we found the bed very comfortable. Great big shower and super soft Orla Kiely towels in the modern bathroom. The kitchen has everything you need, even a dishwasher which was great!
There are fun games to play and movies to watch.
Every aspect of the cottage is finished so nicely.
Also the people living near by in the other cottages were very friendly.
We will want to return that's for sure!
Our highlights of the surrounding area are:
Malham Cove - we did a great 11 mile walk from Malham, up the cove and over, eventually ending back in Malham for a beer!
Settle - this is near by and had some nice shops and cafes too. It's very close by for stocking up on shopping at the supermarket Booths.
The Yorkshire three peaks - if you're here for walking these can?t be missed!
Aysgarth falls - a nice small walk to the falls
Town end farm shop (Airton) - we stopped here on the way to Grassington. It's the farm shop featured on the bbc programme with Tom Kerridge. We shared some delicious cake here and bought some treats form the deli to take back home.
Bolton Abbey - Don?t let the £10 car parking put you off! You can spend a day here, there's lots to see, and you can even have a bbq or like we did take a picnic. This place has absolutely beautiful grounds, we went on a sunny day and enjoyed about a 5 mile walk around the grounds, which have amazing views if you walk up to some of the higher routes. But even on the lower routes the views of the water are just lovely.
We went over the stepping stones on the river and looked around the abbey and were lucky to see a choir practicing!
Topping it all off, we got engaged here this week!!!
Stunning location and beautiful cottage
We fell in love with this cottage the second we found it online. Our journey to the cottage took us past the famous Ribble Viaduct and all the stunning scenery - good start to the holiday!
On arrival at the cottage we stepped in and straight away knew we were going to have a brilliant holiday. It was absolutely immaculate. We all did an excited tour of the cottage and agreed it was beautiful. The spec was high, it was modern, light and so well thought through.
Our welcome pack included everything we needed for the first night including a bottle of beer, wine, and fresh coffee and sitting on the table were the most delicious home-made brownies we have ever tasted.
The train line being so close was a really great feature and we were lucky enough to have a steam train roll past the window an hour after we arrived. The cottage comes equipped with everything you'll need including a snuggly blankets, a brilliant range of DVDs and games. The shower is fantastic and we had the best nights sleep while there. There were also so many walks right from the door you're spoilt for choice.
We visited Settle many times over the course of the week and ate at The Golden Lion pub - we cannot recommend the Sunday Roast enough as well as everything else on the menu. The Ye Olde Naked Man cafe is also one not to be missed.
The stunning location, the peace and quiet and the sounds of birds and sheep drifting through the window is idyllic and we all agreed it had been one of our best holidays ever and can?t wait to come back very soon.
Wonderful, cosy and rural cottage. Ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.
Gorgeous rural location in the Dales, adjacent to the Settle -Carlisle railway.
Very peaceful ( trains infrequent) , cosy and warm. Beautifully decorated with well equipped kitchen and fantastic bathroom ( shower lovely and warm, but no bath)
Beds really comfortable. Spotlessly clean. Wood burning stove great on autumn evenings. Great location for the 3 peaks, or just for exploring the Dales in general. Lots of places to eat / cosy pubs in nearby Settle and Kirkby Lonsdale. Very impressed with the owners who left a welcome pack and also took the trouble to ring prior to our arrival with helpful tips and suggestions for our stay. We've stayed in several holiday cottages over the years - this has been the best!
