Not much needs to be said about the Tower of London. The actual 'Tower' is not a castle but a maze of medieval buildings from different periods. At the centre of the complex is the White Tower seen here. This was the original castle, built by William the Conqueror to impose control on London following his Conquest. The distinctive corner cupola turrets were added by Sir Christopher wren centuries later.
