Burlington House fronts onto busy Picadilly, but once you pass through the gateway you escape the noise to a lovely courtyard. At the far end of the courtyard is the Royal Academy of the arts. The house was built for Lord Burlington, a patron of the arts and an immensely influential man who helped popularize the neo-classical style known as Palladianism in England.
