This intriguing memorial stands at the south end of Victoria Tower Gardens. It was erected after the proclamation of the 1833 Slavery Abolition Act by Charles Buxton in memory of his father, Sir Thomas Buxton, who had campaigned for the end to slavery in the British colonies. It was originally erected in Parliament Square, but was moved to this location in 1957.
