The only church in London surviving from the reign of Edward I, St Etheldreda's Church on Ely Place was built between 1250 and 1290 as a chapel for the Bishops of Ely. England has a [hopefully] endearing habit of maintaining old customs and ceremonies. One such is the annual Blessing of the Throats, which takes place at St Etheldreda's each year. Down a narrow alley near the church is the historic Ye Olde Mitre pub.
