Perfect retreat
I have read some of the negative reviews on here and am quite surprised. We have stayed at this cottage on average three times a year for the past few years and have always found it to be of a consistently high standard. The cottage itself is in the small and quaint village of Winster, the people there are very friendly and it is very quiet and peaceful. The cottage is spacious (for an old stone cottage) - clean, tidy and items are frequently replaced and updated. All the amenities you would expect are provided, ample clean towels, bedding and kitchen supplies. There are some complaints over the lack phone signal i have read - this is a quaint village in a small valley, if you need to make a call there are numerous places where you can get signal - if not, probably best to arrange accomodation next to a phone mast! During a previous stay we did have an issue outside the owners control, to which they were very heplful and replied immediately when we phoned them and resolved our problem - with little detriment to our holiday. Essentially if you are looking for a reasonably priced week away, in the lovely peak district, in a quiet location to relax, this is probably the place for you. At least it will be for us - for hopefully many visits to come :)

Beautiful but Dirty Inside
The cottage from first impressions is beautiful (of that there is not doubt) and the village of Winsters is also pretty but but be aware. My family and I had many issues chief amongst which was the kitchen - it was smelly with grease from the cooker which was dirty. The smell radiated down stairs into the front room and lingered on your clothes. The smell was so bad we didn't use the kitchen except for essential needs. Upstairs in the bathroom there was hair in the bath and sink plugs from previous clients. On the floor of he bathroom was dust/dirt balls and significant dust/cob webs in the first room bedroom. Outside the barbecue hadn't been cleaned from the previous user. We brought the above issues to the attention of the owner who apologised but when challenged offered no compensation for the poor services. The cottage in our opinion was not good value for money.

Great cottage
Great little cottage, very comfortable for our weekend away. Might be a little on the small side for the 6 people it says it can sleep, technically it has enough beds however the rest of the cottage would be a little on the cosy side. Winster is a gorgeous little village, lots of very narrow streets and historical buildings, decent pub in the village proper and another just outside. The small grocery store is on the cottages doorstep and has a good selection of products, though it is a little on the expensive side. Overall would highly recommend the cottage, very tidy and cosy, great location, lots to do around the area.

A cute and compact cottage suitable for small families
Pump cottage is small but well laid-out, and suitable for a young family with three or four children. The attic has been converted into a bedroom for three kids, with one double-bed and one small single bed, (along with a few old DVD's and VHS copies of Friends), but the low ceiling up the stairs makes it difficult to reach if you're tall. The first floor has one small room with a single bed and one larger bedroom with a double-bed, and an average bathroom. Both double-beds have rather uncomfortable mattresses however. The cottage is reached by a narrow lane which only one car can fit down, but it does have a turning bay at the end, along with a kids playground and a path for walking the dog. There's no parking on this lane for the property; you need to leave your car on the village high-street. The village shop is right at the top of the lane, and sells firewood and kindle, but the pub is the only other place in the village to go. Pump cottage is a nice place to stay if you're looking for somewhere comfortable to go home too after a full day of activities in the area, and it was plenty of room for us as a couple, but I think a family would find it a bit small if they spent lots of time there. There is also little mobile reception in the house and village. Unfortunately our arrival was complicated by the owner traveling and leaving her main contact number out of service. We hadn't realised we were supposed to contact her two days in advance, and were unable to reach any one on the morning of departure. After several calls to the booking agency we were put through to her spouse, who forwarded us an email with key collection details, but this failed to arrive until the day after we'd arrived. We managed to get back in contact with the spouse to get the keys by finding one of the few spots in the village which has mobile phone reception.

A lovely cottage in a beautiful area. The cottage was kept to a very high standard and had everything you could wish for. The owners were very helpful and gave us lots of information about the cottage and the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend.
