We have stayed at Rhubarb cottage on several occasions as it is so relaxing. We enjoying the winding quaint lanes of the village and the locals are very friendly who encourage us to play on the pub quiz team.
The cottage itself has everything you could ask for with a holiday let. A lovely open fire, the softest mattress that makes you feel like you are sleeping on clouds. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need to be fully self catering.
We really love this cottage and our dogs love it too. Looking forward to our next visit.
Very misleading photos .
Bradwell was a very nice place . Rhubarb cottage was very dissapointing . There was a very strong smell of smoke in the front room .the bedding in the larger bedroom was disgusting screwed up like it had been in dryer for hours. Shower curtains were dirty.uder settee cushions full of dog hair and food crumbs etc . Cobwebs above cooker .bathroom floor and light fitting thick of dust .this cottage in need of a very good deep clean . Windows dirty inside and out .weeds at the door garden in need of some maintainance. got in touch with Sykes cottages supplied photos said owner was unwilling to give any compensation as I didn't contact him while I was there .i booked through Sykes cottages who I think should inspect there properties more often they offered £50 in vouchers to spend with themselves .which I said was an insult .
We stayed here for a week in August and the cottage was very nice, as was the village of Bradwell which proved to be a good location for exploring the Peak District.
We did have some issues, however. Firstly, the cottage is located on a very steep hill, which there was no mention of on the Sykes website. My wife is heavily pregnant and had we known this when looking at the cottage we would not have booked. This cottage is definitely not suitable for people with walking difficulties. There is also no parking at all, which was also not made clear. We had to park on another street, which proved difficult when loading/unloading the car, especially with the steep hills.
Secondly, we found that this cottage lacked some basic upkeep and cleanliness. When we arrived, there was a strong smell from the washing machine so we had to buy cleaner to clean it out. The fridge was also dirty, so again, on arrival after a long journey, we had to clean the fridge before putting any food in. I don't think that this is acceptable when going on holiday. The oven was also very dirty and there was a dirty towel left in the linen basket from the previous occupant. The toilet flush was broken and we found that there was a certain way it had to be flushed in order to prevent water pouring from the cistern. The fire alarm was also disconnected, presumably because the battery had gone.
The cottage had a nice garden with great views but again, would benefit from some attention and upkeep.
We found that the cottage was very authentic and decorated to a high standard and it could be so much better with some basic upkeep and cleanliness, which is a shame as it has put us off staying there again or recommend it.
We passed our comments to Sykes and received a generic reply which did not address any of our comments. I am still awaiting more correspondence from Sykes after bringing this up with them. The after sales and customer service from Sykes was abismal and we would hesitate to book with them again.
