Absolutely perfect!!!
We booked the Old Church for our family to stay in Northumberland while attending our son's wedding nearby. We wanted somewhere special and WOW this was definitely it!!!! The conversion of the church is stunning. The downstairs bedrooms are just gorgeous: luxurious, full of atmosphere and a sense of history. The downstairs living area is absolutely beautiful. The huge stained glass window was my favourite feature. It is so so beautiful and created a the different atmosphere as it reflected the changing qualities of light during the day. The mezzanine level is modern chic, and stylish with a real wow factor. The two further living areas enabled us all to spread out and relax, read or listen to music. There are lots of books, games, CDs and DVDs. The outside areas are lovely too. We took a telescope and got some amazing views of the moon from the stargazing platform in the garden. We also enjoyed a great afternoon in the garden with a picnic and the fire pit just taking in the gorgeous Northumbrian scenery.
The church is in a fantastic part of the country. We really loved nearby Bellingham, a pretty historic village but with everything you could want for your stay: small supermarket and independent butchers, bakers, fruit and veg shop, chemist, bookshop and gift shops. We also loved Hexham about half an hour's drive away, a larger town with an amazing abbey and well with the visit. Kielder Reservoir is a short drive away. And the walk to Hareshaw Linn waterfall is definitely not to be missed!!
We found the area to be fine for our EV car despite our initial nervousness.
And lastly I want to mention Anne who owns and runs the Old Church. We first booked in 2019 for a 2020 wedding.
Though all the stress and hassle of cancellations and rebooking , she has stayed in touch and been so helpful and reassuring. We finally met during the week and I found her to really friendly and genuinely interested us and in ensuring we had everything we needed to make this the special time we had waited so long for.
I am already looking at when we can return.
