Lynton, Devon
Lynton, Devon

Lynton is a popular seaside town with Victorian-era villas standing atop a cliff looking down on the fishing port of Lynmouth. A steam-driven tramway joins Lynton to Lynmouth.

Lynton gained popularity as a resort when British travellers were forced to find alternatives to European holidays during the Napoleonic Wars. A walk along the cliffs from Lynton brings you to the beautiful area known as The Valley of Rocks, with odd geological formations of sandstone and shale.

A short drive away is the famous Exmoor beauty spot of Watersmeet, while Lynton is only 5 miles from Oare, where RD Blackmore set his novel Lorna Doone.
