An intriguing 13th-century church in the grounds of Deene Park, St Peter's is a large building of local coursed limestone beneath a Collyweston slate roof. The church consists of a chancel, chapels, south transept, aisled nave, west tower, and south porch.
The interior is Victorian, thanks to a restoration in 1868 by TH Wyatt for the wife of the 7th Earl of Cardigan. The chancel was later rebuilt in lavish style by GF Bodley.
The primary interest here are the memorials to generations of the Brudenell family of Deene Park. Most of these are to be found in the south chapel.
The earliest of the memorials dates to 1531, but the most impressive is the monument to the 7th Earl and his wife. The Earl was the man responsible for leading the infamous Charge of the Light Brigades during the Crimean War.
St Peter's is no longer used for regular worship and is in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
