Ilam, Holy Cross Church
Ilam, Staffordshire, England
A lovely Saxon church, rebuilt in the 19th century, stands in idyllic parkland below Ilam Hall. In the south chapel is the shrine of St Bertram, a local hermit, and a pair of Saxon crosses stand in the churchyard. The octagonal north chapel serves as a mausoleum to David Pike Watts, with a superb memorial sculpture by Sir Francis Chantrey.
