Delightful cottage in an idyllic part of Britain.
Stayed May 2021. A beautiful location. The neighbours (Edward, Steve and Richard in particular) made us so very welcome and Edward very kindly shared his knowledge of the local area. The cottage has stunning views to the rear and a lovely little suntrap of a front garden too. The facilities were very good and the cottage was warm and cosy. Everything you could need for a self catering holiday was supplied. The furniture was of good quality, as were the bedding and towels. Very clean.
I am reliably informed that the cottage (one of four) is in fact a converted Manor House and has a lot of history. Hinderwell is a fabulous location...the villagers were welcoming, friendly and incredibly helpful. The village boasts two pubs, a butchers/grocers, a mobile post office, a tea room / gift shop and is the base for numerous local walks and places of interest.
The cottage and the area are only for the completely mobile...steep stairs in the cottage and even steeper hills all around! A must do is the local graveyard...separated into two - St Hilda's Well is next to the church, but climb up to the top of the graveyard across the way and you will be rewarded with views for miles over the coast and rolling hills. Thanks Edward!
Highly recommended.

Adequate
The cottage architecturally is old quaint and cute.
The bed was comfortable, however a new replaced duvet and not one that had laundered resulting in it feeling heavy would have been appreciated.
The two sofas are very cheap and uncomfortable, very low backed with fixed 'collapsed in the middle' foam seat cushions. As the cushions were integral with the sofa it was not possible to support the cushions with a blanket or magazines etc to stop sinking into the middle of the sofa when seated.
The photo of the outside seating area gives the impression that it is seclude and an excellent area to eat and entertain in. It is not. The cottage is in a quadrangle the garden is open and overlooked on three sides by rows of cottages, it felt like eating center stage! Slabs, trellis and imaginative planting of quick climbers to go thru the trellis would be wonderful and make a nice outdoor area.
The owners are missing a trick, the cottage is old and quaint but as it does not have stunning or interesting views, is not in a village of outstanding beauty, internally it should be comfortable and stunning.
The bottle of wine is a nice touch, but I would prefer a fluffy quilt, somewhere nice to sit outdoors and comfortable seating indoors. I actually left a day early as I developed something I have never had before...back ache from sitting on the sofa.

not the best holiday rental!
Booked for a week but left a day early. The cottage was small which was fine for just the two of us. Just inside the back door was an empty space ideal for walking shoes etc but not a coat hook in sight to hang wet coats. The decor was not very well thought through as all the pictures were different colours and the bedding was mismatched with brown and turquoise sheets! On the plus side the village pub across the road was excellent as was the location of the cottage the garden was a pleasure to sit in too. Needs a more homely touch.
