Looks are disieving
Looks are deceiving. After being told to check in after 3pm to allow the cleaners to do their job we turned up at 3.10 pm to find the cleaners still there which in its self was not a problem, after they left and we had a quick look round to familiarise our selves with the house we discovered that the property was not completely clean..ie hairs in the toilets, a dishwasher full off dirty cutlery and plates that had not been turned on. The upstairs bathroom did not have a handle to turn on the shower and it had lights not working and tiles were falling off the bath panel. One of the down stairs bathrooms had a toilet seat that was totally detached from the toilet. After discovering these main faults I tried to contact the owner and names listed in the guest book, I had a conversation with the owner who told me she would rectify the faults, this was Friday the first day of our stay, but nothing had happened by the following Monday so I contacted the letting agent who assured me they would get on to the owner and get the faults fixed. At about 10am a workman turned up to remedy the above faults so we left him to it. on our return we discovered that he had fixed the toilet seat downstairs but the upstairs shower was still not working and he had left a lot of mess in the shower tray and all over my friends wash things and toothbrush and also left the old lamps and boxes on the side. At this point I phoned the cleaners and they came round and cleaned the bathroom but did not take away the old lamps or boxes. We were told that the shower could not be repaired because the part could not be sourced, so my friend had to use one of our showers for the rest of our stay. On the Monday night at about 2am the down stairs smoke detector went off but it turned out that the battery was flat, so I had to go out in my car and find a 24hour shop to purchase a new battery. Over the following few days we began to notice smaller faults with the property which in my opinion along with the rest of the problems is down to lack of maintenance. IE... the mortise joints on the dinning room chairs are coming apart so are not stable to sit on, a lot of the internal doors do not fit correctly so this could be a fire/health and safety issue, the patio doors did not close properly so slugs and rain and drafts came in. After returning home I complained to the letting agent and gave a poor feedback report. the agent later tells me that the owner had offered me £100 compensation which I thought was not nearly enough and declined the offer and said I want a larger sum. the owner refused to up the offer so I reluctantly accepted the £100. I hope the owner of this house takes note of my criticism and spends some money on this house as it could be lovely.
