Great location for visiting the Northumberland coastal area
We enjoyed our stay here mainly because of the location - the village of Felton is a short walk downhill where the is a good pub/restaurant and a very nice cafe/bakery. It is only a short drive to all the lovely attractions of the Northumberland coast as well as Alnwick. The A1 is very close, although you aren't aware of this in the village, and there are beautiful walks along the River Coquet. There were only two of us staying in this 3 bedroom property so we were very comfortable. However, the lack of direct access to the garden was an issue for us, and if you do make the effort to use it there is steep terracing and a sloping lawn. We were not confident that our dog would not escape, and I think it could be a safety risk with young children. Access to the property is down a narrow lane and then a number of steps - not ideal for transferring luggage. However, if you do not need the outside space this might not be a problem. There were a few niggling maintenance issues that needed addressing but they didn't spoil our week here - we reported them to Sykes and hopefully they will be sorted in the off-peak season.

Nothing like what was promised by Sykes Cottages and definitely not luxury!
The photo on the web was utterly misleading appearing to show a detached property with lawn in front. This view could only be seen from down in the village and in fact it was just the middle section of the house approached down stone steps at the rear to an unprepossessing entrance. The promised garden was through the adjacent owners property and down a lane so totally unsuitable for children. The 'selection? of rooms is a lobby into the kitchen leading to a lounge/diner. After a 5 hour drive we were shocked to find the place was filthy! We spent two hours cleaning to make it acceptable and having contacted the owner he wasn?t bothered. The games room does not exist. The cloakroom is a cramped utility room. The top floor bedroom is an attic with a bed under the eaves so you have to slide in by numbers! Nowhere to put anything. A skylight above your face and no curtains so light in your face at 4am! Only one spot in the room where you can stand upright. The towels were threadbare and no welcome provisions other properties we have rented always leave. The sanitary ware is in desperate need of maintenance - downstairs loo coming off the wall and seat doesn?t fit. Bathroom sink plug not working and sink blocking. Loo cistern dripping as is shower tap. Smoke alarm went off at 4 am on two nights. As regular renters of luxury property this was shocking! Sykes Cottages had obviously never inspected it and were also not helpful when we complained and sent photos.
