One of the loveliest waterfalls in the north, High Force is the highest unbroken fall of water in the country. The water spills over a limestone cliff and falls in a thunder of spray down to a pool 21 metres below (approximately 64 feet). The effect is quite stunning.
High Force is reached via a well-tended gravelled path that leads gently down a steep-sided, wooded gorge. Interpretive panels tell visitors about the geology of the area that led to the formation of the waterfall.
The falls are part of the large Raby Castle estates. There is a gift shop, toilets, and cafe facilities near the large car park on the B6277.
The Pennine Way national trail runs along the far bank of the Tees at High Force.
