The Victoria Art Gallery was opened in 1900 and stands near Bath's historic Pulteney Bridge. The gallery is free to visit, and features art from 1500 to the modern era, focussing in particular on the history of British painting. A special exhibit of works depicts Bath through the ages.
Among the works depicting Bath are Georgian caricatures by Thomas Rowlandson, James Gillray, John Nixon, and Matthew Darly. Among the more well-known artists whose works are on view are
Thomas Gainsborough and JMW Turner, with further featured artists including Thomas Jones Barker, Glyn Philpot, architect John Nash, and Edwin Long.
Works of art - particularly from the Georgian period - depict some of fashionable Bath's most popular places, including the Pulteney Bridge, The Roman Baths, The Pump Room, The King's Bath, The Royal Crescent, and The Assembly Rooms.
The Victoria Gallery is usually open Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year except for 25/26 December, Good Friday and New Year's Day. Free entry.
