The ruins of a Cistercian abbey founded in 1246 by Richard, Earl of Cornwall. Hailes was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages when pilgrims flocked to see a phial said to contain the blood of Christ. There is a small museum, and a very short stroll from the abbey is the Norman parish church of Hailes, which has excellent medieval wall paintings.
