This detached, stone built cottage near Hawsker, close to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, can sleep four people in two bedrooms.

The Cowshed, a delightful, detached stone cottage a short drive from Hawsker on the North Yorkshire coastline, can sleep four people in two bedrooms. The cottage offers two bedrooms, one of which is on the ground floor, and each with the option of being a king-size double or a twin room. There is also a ground floor bathroom with a freestanding stone bath, a kitchen, a dining area and a sitting area with a woodburning stove. Outside, the patio enjoys views of the surrounding countryside to the sea, furniture, a fire pit and a barbecue, a wonderful spot to spend warm summer evenings. There is also off road parking for one car, and a short drive down to the coastal towns of Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay make The Cowshed a fabulous base for exploring this beautiful area.

Lovely, if not a littlw impractical with children
A lovely location, rural enough to feel out of it, but near enough to civilisation to be practical. The Honesty Shop on site also proved useful on more than one occasion! The propery is wonderfully rustic with so much detail, that it takes a while to take it all in! Only downsides are the difficulty in getting up to the second floor, which is of course fully advertised, but in real life its a little more challenging than anticipated. We originally planned on putting our 1 year old up there in her cot, but decided against it upon arrival as we were worried about falling whilst carrying her. Also, whilst in keeping with the theme, the bath and sink in the bathroom would be much more practical and attractive if they were a proper bath and sink, and we feel would actually add an extra level of class to the really lovely quirky cottage. Some things a wonderful when rustic, others, maybe not so much! Overall a really lovely pre-Christmas stay and we have enjoyed every minute. We'd love to come back in summer as it would no doubt be wonderful, but the impracticalities mentioned above with a small child would unfortunately prevent us from doing so... perhaps in a few years when they are older!

The perfect getaway
The Cowshed was absolutely ideal for our family of four plus dog. We stayed for 4 nights but could easily have stayed longer, it was warm, comfortable, quiet and had breathtaking views of Whitby. Would highly recommend.

Quirky cottage - but not for us
My friend and I (senior citizens) stayed in this cottage midweek. It was very clean and well equipped and Helen and Mark, the owners, were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay, but the stairs to the second bedroom are quite challenging for older people and, although we appreciate that the bathroom fittings were part of the 'Cowshed' theme, the wash hand basin and bath were a little basic for us. A table lamp looked quite dangerous as it had insulating tape wrapped around the bare wires and the taps were loose on the kitchen sink and twisted round when they were used. It really needed a handyman going in to rectify a few faults that had probably built up over months of constant use.

Wonderful place
We had an amazing time at the Cowshed over Christmas. The cottage itself is so homely but quirky. The Christmas decorations were beautifully in keeping with the decor of the cottage and such a lovely touch. The location of the cottage was fantastic, it felt isolated but wasn?t actually that far of a drive from Whitby centre. The Cowshed is such a wonderful place that we have just booked to stay again!

What a quirky beautiful cottage..perfect location..views to die for..perfect retreat..we and our dogs loved it..great field to let them have a run about..we will be back....everything you could ask for
